The charge was regarded as one of the most heroic yet futile assaults in British military history, and was instantly the subject of speculation back home. The main focus here for me is not what the author of the book thinks of the poem, but what the book says the director of the movie thinks and how he interpreted the poem. Having the comparison between the poem itself and the film that was based off of the poem was another way for me to see another writers interpretation of the work.
